Just got my Unitil bill. They couldn't read our meter during the outage (10 days), so they *estimated* our usage. Of course, they estimated it at 50% more electricity than we used in December of last year.
I found this link: http://www.eia.doe.gov/cneaf/electricity/epm/table5_6_a.html that shows average electric rates across the country. Unitil charges more than all of them!
I was on hold for 28 minutes before I was able to talk to someone about my "estimated" bill. They just laughed, like it was par for the course that we had to come up with the extra money. No recognition whatsoever of the hardship or imposition. I can't believe these people.
we have two sick people on our street i called to let them know we still had no power and everyone eles around us did and also found out what the problem was for our area and asked for someone to take a look and they told me lady its you and thosands more people that are out so if you want go to a shelter or call 911 bad busness i say time to go lets get a bigger company in here that can handle our city.
Unitil is running a scam on its investors. They just bought another utility company in Maine on December 1 and they're selling stock to help finance it. Unitil has to keep its stock up and the dip in revenues for being out half the month of December would cause their stock to tank.
They have "estimated" December billing far higher than average to balloon their accounts receivable so they look good to potential investors. That just may constitute fraud, and in addition to the state attorney general, DPU and all the rest, it just may be time for both the SEC and the FBI to look into their fancy bookkeeping.
It's too much of a coincidence that their usage MUST be down by at least 20 - 30% for the month of December, yet their estimated bills reflect higher usage instead of lower.
They can smell this all the way to Denmark. Not too smart, but desperate.
An online petition has been started to remove UNITIL as the provider in our area. Anyone interested can sign at: http://www.gopetition.com/online/24194.html
There is also a real time petition that was started last weekend in Lunenburg center and there will be another signing opportunity coming up soon.
There will be a petition signing this Sunday, Jan 4, 12-2pm in Lunenburg Center. There will be print and television news coverage and any and all UNITIL customers are welcome to come sign the petition.
There will also be a box for donations of non-perishable foods to the Lions Club to help restock the Lunenburg food pantry which was depleted during the storm, primarily used by the volunteer-run shelter at THMS.
Please help spread the word. The online petition now has over 800 signatures and is growing every hour. Both petitions - online and paper - will be presented to the Governor and the DPU requesting action.
Umm, hello Tom, have you ever driven by The Unitil Office on John Fitch Highway? I'd have to say they have a LOT more than 12 trucks, and you should never just repeat what you've "heard" it might make you sound dumb!
